CURRENT – ART AND URBAN SPACE
is a transdisciplinary festival for art in urban space. The third edition will take place from June 26 to July 27, 2025, and will focus on "Air" in all its social, political, ecological, and material forms.
As an invisible yet omnipresent element, air shapes lives and the environment. It transmits sounds, smells, and vibrations, moves with the wind, and is essential for life on Earth. The festival examines how air flows through and influences the city of Stuttgart. Artists are invited to explore its significance across urban, historical, and social dimensions. Projects will be presented at various locations, from Pragsattel to the Central Station and Marienplatz to the former health resort of Degerloch. CURRENT follows these currents through the city, using air as a narrative, aesthetic, and artistic medium.
In times of pollution, climate crises, and pandemics, air has moved into the social and political spotlight. The festival raises questions about quality of life, social justice, and shared responsibility—both locally and globally. The challenge lies in preserving this collective resource and ensuring access for all. In the summer of 2025, artists will make the invisible visible through installations, performances, interventions, video screenings, walks, and readings. Following the pathways of air, they invite the audience to rediscover and reflect on its meaning and impact.
