Every night—between sunset and midnight—Night Screenings #1: temporary spaces for new narratives shows films and video works that raise questions concerning public space and public sphere, reveal peculiarities, and examine relationships that shape social life. For the artistic examinations, interventions and narratives political and social ideas of the public space and the public sphere are as important as remembrance carved in stone or public buildings and places.
Is the public space a space among many other spaces (private, social, political, urban, rural)? Is it a physical place or a frame of reference that creates a public? All works raise questions of accessibility, use and function of the spaces surrounding us.
Night Screenings #1: temporary spaces for new narratives is part of a long-term debate on ques- tions related to public space, urban develop- ment, and gentrification. The series aims to highlight developments and examines strategies for reconquering public spaces through institutions or self-organized groups. The series is initiated by feldfünf and is implemented with various cooperation partners.
